The second part of the field trip was spent having lunch and then touring the Huntsville Depot. It is the original structure and railroad that was used in the Civil War. Bay and I really enjoyed this part of the day. He has inherited my love of history and interest in the Civil War. The Depot building is off to the right of the photo below. It is huge! There are 3 levels that I am aware of complete with hidden stairs and the upper level where soldiers were kept prisoner.
Bay is in the dark shirt with the union hat on...there weren't many of the union hats around...hhhmmm, wonder why? Oh yeah, we're in ALABAMA! The civil war medicine presentation was very interesting. She explained how they cared for the wounded and ill soldiers. I'm glad I wasn't a nurse back then!
Bay standing at attention.
Even in the south we found information about a union soldier from Illinois that was held prisoner in the upper level of the depot. Of course, Bay wanted a photo with the story.
Bay being silly and wearing a very scratchy burlap uniform jacket.
